Jared Steffensen
"I ask myself, what else could this be?"
About the artist
Jared Steffensen is a Salt Lake City artist whose work seemingly joins disparate realms through geometric abstraction. Working in 2D and 3D media, Steffensen’s work encompasses sculpture, installation, new media and collage. For his Sculptitecture series, Steffensen seamlessly blends familiar elements from modern architecture and design visuals, ultimately building surreal new forms with similar architectural principles.
Steffensen was born in Fairfax, Virginia and currently resides in Salt Lake City, where he is the Curator of Education at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art. He earned his BFA in Intermedia Sculpture from the University of Utah in 2002, and an MFA from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006, where he was also a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation MFA Grant. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States as well as in Mexico, Germany and The Netherlands.
